Schedule

I currently have one spot available for the month of March.

How long does it take to produce an audiobook?

My turnaround time is approximately one week per 2.7 audio hours (25,000 words).

So, a 100,000 word novel will take me approximately one month from start to finish. This includes recording, editing, mastering, a full listen-through and revisions.

Let’s look at a timeline.

  1. I will record the first 15 minutes of your book, then send it to you to listen through. Here is where we decide on the tone for your story, and you can give me directions on what to fix before I record the rest of the book. Do you want me to speak faster or slower? Am I pronouncing a character’s name wrong? This process usually takes only a day or two.

  2. After you accept the 15 minute sample, I will record the rest of the book. One audio hour equals approximately 6 working hours, so this process can take several weeks, up to two months for longer epics.

  3. When I complete 50% of the book, if you wish, I can send you the first half of the book to review while I record the rest.

  4. When I’m done recording and revising, you get the book to review. I advise all of my clients to listen through the whole thing before you accept. Once it’s submitted for publication, it’s very difficult to go back and make changes.

  5. After revisions are done, and payment is sent, I will submit the book for publication. ACX needs to run their own verifications to make sure the book fits their standards before they push it to the market. This takes roughly 2-3 weeks. Around winter holidays, it can take up to 6, so please keep this in mind if you’re trying to get an audiobook out for the holidays.

  6. Your book is available for purchase! Congratulations! Now lets both head to Twitter and announce it.

TL:DR; For a standard 10-hour audiobook, you can expect your book to hit the market two months after hiring me as your narrator.
